Tomorrow I leave the UK to head off on a solo travel adventure of a lifetime to Central America… but how am I feeling?
So this is it… Tomorrow I leave the UK for 3 months on a solo travel adventure of a lifetime to Central America! I’ve had a countdown running on my phone – it’s 87 days since I made the decision to do this, 29 since I left my job… and now the ticker is down to 1 for my departure.
It’s a strange feeling. I’m SO incredibly excited about this trip. I just know there will be so many amazing experiences ahead. However, as the day draws closer I’ve thought more what about what I’m leaving behind. What will have changed by the time I get back?
Some of the things I’m going to miss are so utterly trivial I’m embarrassed to write about them. TV shows like The Great British Bake Off, Downton Abbey, The X Factor, Made In Chelsea (yes, really I have terrible taste) – I ALWAYS watch them, and now I’ll be left behind the pack!
Autumn in London is mysterious and beautiful. Bonfire night and fireworks, fairgrounds, ice skating, Christmas shopping, mulled wine, Sunday pub roasts on freezing afternoons. Oh and those days which go through every season in the space of an hour (and you’re always inappropriately dressed!) Somehow London feels more ‘Londony’ in the cold.
I’ve wandered around the shops looking for a few new things to take with me… but they’re full of gorgeous winter boots, big coats with furry collars and chunky knitwear. Things I have no need for.
But what is ahead of me? Excitement, adventures, new friends, and a step away from normality. Mornings learning spanish under palm trees, afternoons trekking around volcanoes, evenings listening to howler monkeys in the trees. It’s going to be incredible!
Here is the route I will be taking (starting and ending in Cancun, Mexico). I can’t wait to share some of my adventures with you!
