Ahead of my travels, it’s time to share a few incredible places to visit in Indonesia, including Borobudur, Raja Ampat and the Gili Islands.
So this year has been intense! A lot of travel, not a lot of time at home, and plenty of exciting opportunities. From travelling around South America visiting geysers, salt flats and volcanoes, to making a video in Croatia for Lonely Planet, there are waaaay too many highlights to list them all here.
But coming up is a trip I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. I’m FINALLY heading to Asia! I’ll be touring Indonesia with Wonderful Indonesia (the tourist board) and it looks like the itinerary has it all – history, culture, art, beaches, landscapes and what’s more, I get to travel with some of my best friends! So, it’s time to find out a bit more about what I’ll be getting up to over the next month.
Borobudur
We’ll be visiting the world’s largest Buddhist temple Borobudur. It looks incredible! The UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to the 9th century and is surrounded by majestic mountains,
Yogyakarta
We’ll also be checking out Prambanan – a collection of massive Hindu temples near the city of Yogyakarta. After learning all about the history we’ll enjoy a ballet performance featuring over 200 dancers and musicians in the open-air theatre inside the park!
Raja Ampat Islands
Around 1000 islands make up the Raja Ampat Islands in West Papua. With thick jungle, incredible white sandy beaches, secret lagoons and bright turquoise waters, they look like one of the most photogenic places on the planet. The snorkelling and diving is world class too, so I can’t wait to jump in that crystal clear water!
Gili Islands
More beach time as we head to the Gili Islands – a collection of 3 small islands north west of Lombok. I’ll be spending my time on Gili T, enjoying the white sandy beaches, palm trees and maybe even checking out the sunken ship at Wreck Point. Plus, I can’t wait to hop on the famous Datu Swing in the water at Hotel Ombok Sunset! I’d also love to explore Nusa Penida if I have time!
Ubud
Surrounded by rainforest and terraced rice paddies, Ubud in Bali sounds like a magical place to end my Indonesian adventures. While there I’ll definitely check out Monkey Forest (although I’ve heard the monkeys can be pretty agressive!) the markets, the rice paddies and maybe even try a yoga class… well, when in Bali eh?!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about these incredible places to visit in Indonesia – I can’t wait to see some of them for myself soon!
Enjoyed this post? Why not pin it…
The Datu Swing looks incredible and I’d love to return to Ubud
Ahhh I can’t wait Suze. Let me know if you have any tips. I’m really excited!
I love Indonesia and your pictures and post make me want to return now
Thank Mel – I’m really excited about this trip! More than I have been about any trips in a long time!! 🙂
Your itinerary looks awesome too, though I must say I was so excited to see the Komodos for myself. If you have some extra time I would definitely recommend heading over there too!
Thanks Annika! I’ve been trying to squeeze that in but it looks like we’ll be spending our extra time in Bali. Looks so amazing!
