Tegalalang Rice Terraces, near Ubud, Bali

From white water rafting, volcano hikes and quad biking, to cooking classes, nature tours, cultural activities and jungle swings, you’re guaranteed to love these Ubud tours!

I fell in love with Bali when I visited a while back. After a mammoth adventure around Indonesia, it was the place where I finally had some time to relax. The highlight for me was the jungle town of Ubud.

I love that it ticks so many boxes… Whether you fancy a relaxing break, an adventure trip, or a bit of both, there really is something for everyone. I used it as a jumping off point to explore waterfalls, hike a volcano and soak up the culture and cuisine on the island. It was a great base.

So if you’re looking for things to do in Ubud and beyond, I’ve popped together a handy guide to some of the best tour packages, attractions and activities. There zero chance of you getting bored!

Please note, all of these will pick up from Ubud hotels, and some offer transfers from other parts of the island too (check first!)

Mount Batur Volcano Hike

Without a doubt, one of the best things I did during my trip to Bali was this volcano hike up Mount Batur. After being picked up sometime after 2am, you’ll drive to the base of the volcano, where a guide will lead the way. The aim is to reach the summit for sunrise, and I can honestly say it was one of the best things I’ve ever done while travelling – but it’s also one of the most challenging!

The steep incline and darkness make it both physically and mentally draining, but once I saw sunrise it was all worth it. Oh and the way down was much easier! The tour I did included transfers, a guide, breakfast and a trip to the hot springs afterwards. Read my blog post all about the Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking.

Check prices, info and book the Mount Batur volcano hike.

Ubud, Bali – The Ultimate Ubud Travel Guide

Tegalalang Rice Terraces, near Ubud, Bali (Photo: Macca Sherifi)

Ubud is one of the most popular destinations to visit in Bali, Indonesia. From incredible waterfalls and rice terraces, to volcano hikes, yoga classes and massages, find out the top things to do, places to visit, eat, drink, and of course, a few of my special tips for travelling around the region in my Ubud blog!

Ubud is one of those super cool towns I’d read about before I visited Bali in Indonesia. Friends raved about the natural beauty, the spas, food, waterfalls, day trips, yoga and more. I felt like everyone had a favourite spot in the area, and feeling cynical I wondered whether it was going to be horribly overhyped and touristy!

You know what? It really wasn’t. I mean, there were plenty of people visiting but it didn’t have that horrible touristy vibe where you feel like all real culture has been lost. It lived up to the hype, and perhaps even surpassed beyond my expectations.

It’s also incredibly budget-friendly. So after spending so many enjoyable days there, I wanted to write this Ubud travel blog with a few of my top places to visit and things to do. Some are obvious (hello rice terraces and waterfalls!) and some are places that I discovered with my friends and couldn’t wait to share!

Tegalalang Rice Terraces

Ubud’s most iconic photos are of the beautiful lush rice paddies to the north of the town. They’re as stunning as the photos, and the green is so bright, you feel like you’ve cranked up the saturation!

You can enter free of charge, but to continue to different sections, you’ll pay small fees (a few IDR). You can also pay to have photos at the famous Love Bali sign or to pose with one of the workers in the famous hats!

REVIEW: The Balé, Nusa Dua, Bali

Enjoying our private pool at The Bale, Nusa Dua, Bali

The Balé in Nusa Dua, Bali is smart, relaxing and oozes luxury. It’s the perfect hotel for that special ‘treat’ or romantic getaway.

With 29 chic private pavilions, a wonderful spa, gym, two great dining options, and an enormous double infinity pool, it’s no wonder The Balé is one of the top hotels in Nusa Dua. The adults-only resort doesn’t really carry that ‘resort’ vibe. In fact, in the days I stayed, I barely saw any other guests, yet I knew they were there! Crossing paths at breakfast, many of us were so attached to our stunning private pools and rooms that we spent the majority of our time there.

Mount Batur Sunrise Trek, Bali, Indonesia

Taking in the incredible view of sunrise from Mount Batur, Bali

The Mount Batur sunrise trek in Bali, Indonesia is a rewarding and magical way to start the day. Plus, sunrises in Bali don’t get better than this!

After a few weeks of beaches, palm trees and swimming in Raja Ampat, Gili T and northern Bali, it was time to challenge myself.

While I wouldn’t say I’m unfit, I’m no gym bunny. I tried yoga once and was in pain for a week! Oh and I’m pretty hazardous on two wheels. I’m not bad at running, but often lack the motivation required to find my trainers, let alone lace them up!

So when I reached Bali, it was time to stop being so lazy and get the blood pumping again.

Mt Batur (known in Indonesia as Gunung Batur) is an active volcano, and its peak is at 1717 metres. Due to high daytime temperatures the trekking tours all set off early in the morning, when you’ll enjoy the added bonus of catching sunrise from the top.
