The Best Honeymoon Hotels In Sri Lanka

From luxurious resorts with sea views, to stunning hillside escapes in tea plantations, these are the best honeymoon hotels in Sri Lanka.

It seems like only yesterday I was sat where you are, planning my honeymoon in Sri Lanka with my partner. We were splitting our trip between The Maldives and Sri Lanka. It was set to be the perfect mix of luxury, relaxation and adventure!

We loved our honeymoon in Sri Lanka

While we adored The Maldives for its paradise charm and beauty, Sri Lanka offered more memorable experiences. We loved the mix of activities (everything from food tours to hot air balloons!), variety of landscapes and cultural experiences. It was incredible.

It’s fair to say, The Maldives is the place for out and out luxury! You’ll find all sorts of amazing resorts, dotted amongst the tiny white-sand islands. But, they come with huge price tags.

Good news! Luxury is a more budget friendly in Sri Lanka! While some hotels offer five-star luxury, others are singing with eco vibes. With the country boasting such amazing and dramatic scenery, you’ll be lucky enough to discover a mix of hillside retreats, beach resorts and country escapes. There are also some lovely spots to stay in the bigger cities.

I’m going to run through the best honeymoon and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka. I’ve grouped them by location, so you can choose where to stay as you plan your route.

If you’re still deciding where to travel to, don’t miss my Sri Lanka honeymoon itinerary. This is the exact trip we did, and it was phenomenal! Be sure to give it a read for inspiration.

Best Honeymoon and Luxury Hotels in Sri Lanka

Taj Bentota Resort & Spa, Bentota

We ended our honeymoon at this resort, which overlooks the spectacular Bentota Beach. Rated five-star, it is one of Sri Lanka’s top luxury resorts.

We had a lovely room with a double balcony, where we sat enjoying the sea views. There’s a large lagoon-style pool surrounded by sun loungers, where we spent most of our days!

This was the final night of our honeymoon in Sri Lanka!

We thought the food was excellent at the Taj Bentota, particularly the Sri Lankan curries. There’s a rustic seafood restaurant on site too, where we shared a delicious lobster and fresh fish. I wouldn’t say this is the best five-star hotel I’ve stayed at, but it was a very pretty location to round off an amazing honeymoon in Sri Lanka!

Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, Tangalle

This five-star resort in Tangelle overlooks one of the region’s most beautiful beaches. It’s part of a coconut plantation and has a relaxing feel, ideal for honeymooners.

For a treat, you can book a private villa, which comes with its own plunge pool and butler service! You can take your pick from six different places to eat… or book a Sri Lankan cooking class to make something yourself! There’s a gorgeous spa offering couples massages. What better way to relax with your partner on your dream holiday!

Cape Weligama, Weligama

This Relais and Chateaux property is one of the top honeymoon hotels in Sri Lanka. Perched on a cliff, with sweeping views over the Indian Ocean, it offers paradise views. There’s a variety of cuisines on offer at the restaurants, including Italian, Sri Lankan and fresh seafood.

You’ll have a choice of suites and villas, all of which have luxurious touches like steam rooms, stone bathtubs and private pools. It’s an ideal spot for couples looking for a romantic escape!

Shangri-La Hambantota, Hambantota

Shangri-La is one of the top luxury hotel brands in the world, so you know that this beachfront resort in Hambantota on the south coast is going to be incredible! This level of luxury comes with a high price tag, but hey, this is your honeymoon. When else can you splurge?!

Shangri-La Hambantota

Shangri-La Hambantota is home to Sri Lanka’s only 18-hole resort golf course and a chic spa. There are some amazing room options, including stunning ocean view suites. Honeymooners can make their stay extra special, with candlelit dinners by the ocean and couples massages. How romantic is that?

Sigiriya King’s Resort, Sigiriya

When we started searching for where to stay on our honeymoon in Sri Lanka, we were blown away by the photos of this resort! It boasts amazing views of both Sigiriya rock and Pidurangala.

Well, it did not disappoint! Swimming in that pool, while looking at some of nature’s most amazing creations was one of my happiest memories!

We liked that we could walk from the resort into the main town or to the fortress, or hop in a tuktuk. Plus, the hotel staff were happy to organise taxis and tours. It’s a small ‘resort’ with just a few bungalows, and isn’t the high-end luxury of some on this list, but it had a peaceful feel. It wasn’t hugely expensive either. We loved it!

Grand Serendib Hotel, Kandy

Kandy is a really popular place to stay on a multi-stop tour of Sri Lanka. The city is a cultural hub, plus the place you can start one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, from Kandy to Ella. There are lots of hotels in the area, but I’d recommend Grand Serendib Hotel if you’re on your honeymoon. We loved this spot. It offers modern and luxurious accommodation, with incredible views over the mountains.

There’s a huge infinity pool, which juts right out over the view. Plus, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar, Grand Sky Lounge offers breathtaking views and top Sri Lankan cuisine. It’s an ideal spot for a honeymoon cocktail or a romantic dinner for two!

98 Acres Resort and Spa, Ella

We visited this stunning eco-resort in Ella on our honeymoon… but sadly only for a cocktail with a view. After seeing it though, I wish we’d stayed there! Accommodation is in upmarket thatched chalets, which offer breathtaking mountain views.

There’s a gorgeous pool with loungers, a restaurant and beautiful bar with terrace. It’s in a great location for climbing Little Adam’s Peak, visiting the town of Ella or exploring the waterfall nearby. I’ve been lusting after it since our visit, and am saving it as somewhere I’d love to stay on a future trip to Sri Lanka!

Heritance Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya

Are you planning some time in Sri Lanka’s tea plantations? I’d recommend booking a stay at Heritance Tea Factory in Nuwara Eliya. This converted tea factory offers a peaceful and romantic honeymoon experience, blending colonial charm with stunning views over lush tea plantations. One of the coolest things about this hotel is TCK 6685 Restaurant. This fine-dining restaurant is located inside a beautifully restored railway carriage.

If you fancy booking some activities during your stay here, you could enjoy a spa treatment, go for a romantic stroll through the plantations, or pick some of your own tea leaves.

Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya

If you’re looking for out and out luxury, this hotel might not do it for you. However, it does ooze vintage charm. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve turned back the clock! It’s set in pretty gardens, close to tea plantations.

There are a range of rooms to choose from, including a very impressive presidential suite. It’s a peaceful region, ideal for some quiet time as a couple. If you want to plan some activities, there are plenty of things to do. You could head off on a bike tour, go tea tasting, visit a local waterfall or go out bird watching.

Uga Chena Huts, Yala

Yala National Park is one of the best regions in Sri Lanka for safaris. Jeep tours run daily, and offer chances to see elephants, leopards, buffalo, birds and more. If you’re planning a safari trip on your honeymoon, there are two luxurious hotels to choose from.

Uga Chena Huts is an all-inclusive wildlife lodge featuring private cabins with plunge pools. The architecture of this place is absolutely spectacular. The photogenic curved roofs house chic suites and bedrooms, with all the luxury amenities you’d expect in a five-star hotel. But here, you have the added bonus of gorgeous nature-filled views.

Wild Coast Tented Lodge, Yala

Another beautiful option if you’re planning time in Yala, this Relais and Chateau property features ‘cocoon suites’, which look like bubble-shaped tents. They’re so quirky – I’d absolutely love to stay here! Your stay includes a free safari trip too. There’s an open-air bar, top restaurant, and a lovely swimming pool overlooking the view.

One of the most romantic things to do here, other than a safari trip? Watch the sunset with a drink from the hotels’ sand dunes! This is such a romantic place to stay. You’ll love the feeling of being immersed in nature, while still enjoying the luxuries you should on a honeymoon!

Eliyanth Udawalawe

This highly-rated boutique hotel is located a short drive from the entrance to Udawalawe National Park. I remember spotting it during my research and immediately loving its vibe. It’s got that cool treehouse-in-the-jungle look, with lots of wooden accents and floor-to-ceiling glass.

It didn’t disappoint! Our room was gorgeous, with massive windows overlooking lush greenery. And wow, nature was everywhere. There were lizards darting across the paths and colourful birds squawking in the trees. It felt like we were smack in the middle of the wild!

The staff also organised our safari in Udawalawe – one of our favourite experiences in Sri Lanka.

This is the cheapest of all my honeymoon hotel options. It’s a good reminder that you don’t need to splurge to have an amazing experience!

Galle Fort Hotel, Galle

Planning a trip to the historic city of Galle. It’s a must-visit on your Sri Lankan honeymoon!

Galle Fort Hotel

Galle Fort Hotel is a great place to stay. It’s the perfect blend of colonial history, luxury and romance. The boutique hotel is located inside an 18th-century Dutch villa and has a range of gorgeous suites. There’s a swimming pool, cocktail bar and restaurant. Plus, it’s in a perfect location in the centre of the fort, so you’ll be within easy reach of all the sights.

Maniumpathy Hotel, Colombo

One of my favourite things about Sri Lanka’s luxury hotels, is how many of them are in amazing colonial buildings. They have been sensitively adapted to incorporate modern luxuries, while retaining a lot of the elegance of yesteryear.

Maniumpathy Hotel
Maniumpathy Hotel

Maniumpathy Hotel is one of the best luxury hotels in Colombo. Located in Colombo’s central Cinnamon Gardens district, this stunning white building was once heritage home. There are only seven rooms, so you’ll need to book early to avoid disappointment.

Colombo is a big, bustling city, but this hotel offers a bit of peace and quiet; something you’ll be craving if you’re on your honeymoon. There’s a mix of bedrooms and suites to choose from, all with gorgeous antiques and luxurious amenities. The bathrooms are stunning too, with traditional rolltop baths and his and hers marble sinks.

Most of all though, the hotel is in an ideal location for exploring the city or reaching the airport. It’s a lovely place to start or finish a romantic holiday in Sri Lanka.

I hope my guide featuring handpicked hotels (many of which we stayed in!) has helped you decide where to book for your romantic trip! While I’d consider these to be the best honeymoon hotels in Sri Lanka, I’m sure there are plenty of luxurious resorts I’ve missed. Let me know if you have any favourites!
